UK and Switzerland are currently both involved in negotiations with the EU. Britain’s controversial Internal Market Bill has prompted Switzerland’s former chief negotiator with the EU, Michael Ambühl, to examine the thorny issue of sovereignty in EU talks.

How can the UK ensure a frictionless trade in goods from outside of the EU? A look into the heart of Europe to the Swiss approach could be interesting in this regard. From a demographic and economic perspective, probably no other European country, including the EU member states, is as well integrated as Switzerland.

Un nouvel article de Daniela Scherer sur un « accord intérimaire » pour réconcilier la Suisse et l’UE vient de paraître au journal Le Temps. La post-doctorante de l'EPFZ estime qu'il est trop tôt pour signer l’accord-cadre et suggère de passer par une étape intermédiaire, dans laquelle la Suisse se montrerait plus généreuse dans l’aide à la cohésion.

Ein Artikel von Michael Ambühl und Daniela Scherer über die Personenfreizügigkeit und der Schatten des Rahmenabkommens ist soeben in der NZZ erschienen: Im Herbst kommt die Begrenzungsinitiative zur Abstimmung. Die erhoffte Ablehnung sollte nicht als grünes Licht für den noch unausgewogenen Entwurf des Rahmenabkommens interpretiert werden. Eine Klärung wäre wünschbar.
